Built for Cold-Weather Road Riding
Basalt is a substantial heated motorcycle glove for winter street commuting and touring. Its adjustable 7.4V heating system works with 3M Thinsulate™ to help manage the continuous airflow riders experience at the handlebar.
The insulated construction feels fuller than a slim or uninsulated riding glove. Riders should expect additional material around levers and switches and become familiar with the glove’s feel and the motorcycle controls before setting out.
A Hybrid Shell with Leather at Contact Areas
Goatskin covers the entire palm and full index finger. It also extends across the knuckle ridge on the back of the hand and roughly half of the back surface of the other fingers. Polyester forms the remaining outer panels, making Basalt a mixed-material glove rather than a full-leather design.
This distribution places goatskin around the grip and other frequently used areas while allowing the textile sections to flex around the insulation and internal components. Basalt is available in black with carbon fiber and textured palm details.
Structure Around Key Riding Areas
Knuckle Area
A genuine carbon fiber shell creates a rigid outer layer over the main knuckle area.
Palm Heel
A carbon fiber shell covers the palm-heel area alongside reinforced goatskin and textured grip surfaces.
Finger Joints
Padded areas add structure around the finger joints. Basalt does not include the thumb-base reinforcement used on Vortex.
Everyday Road Use
These components add structure around key riding areas. Basalt is intended for everyday road riding and should not be presented or used as track or professional racing equipment.
Heat and Insulation Cover Different Areas
3M Thinsulate™ provides passive insulation across both the palm and back of the hand. The active heating elements cover the full back of the hand and the backs of the fingers. The palm and finger pads do not contain heating elements.

High is useful for initial warm-up or periods of lower movement. Reduce the setting once comfortable to manage battery use. Estimates are based on the included 7.4V 3000mAh batteries. Actual runtime varies with temperature, wind, battery condition, charge level and changes between settings. Basalt operates only from compatible standalone glove batteries and does not connect directly to a motorcycle or heated jacket.
Weather Layers for Rain, Snow and Road Spray
An internal waterproof membrane provides the main barrier against normal rain, snow and road spray. DWR-treated polyester panels help surface moisture bead and shed, while a waterproof zipper closes the battery pocket in the extended cuff.
Waterproof construction is not the same as immersion protection. Avoid soaking the gloves and keep the batteries, connectors and charging components dry.

Dual Visor Wipers
A visor wiper runs along the outside of the index finger on both gloves, providing a convenient surface for clearing rain or snow from a helmet visor.
Palm Feel & Grip
Reinforced goatskin and textured contact areas support general handlebar grip. The carbon fiber palm-heel shell will feel firmer than the same area on a soft textile glove.
Touchscreen Areas
Both gloves have touchscreen-compatible thumb and index finger areas. Response varies by device, screen protector, weather and the precision required.
Extended Drawcord Cuff
The longer gauntlet is designed to overlap a jacket sleeve and tightens with a drawcord. The battery sits inside the zippered cuff pocket, and there is no hook-and-loop wrist closure.
