How to Measure Your Hand for Gloves

1Measure Both Hands

Hand size can differ slightly from left to right. Measure both hands and write down the circumference and length of each, using the same unit throughout. Follow your chosen brand’s guidance on which hand or measurement to use.

2Measure Hand Circumference

Wrap a flexible measuring tape around the widest part of your palm, just below the knuckles. Do not include your thumb. Keep your hand relaxed and the tape snug, but not tight.

3Measure Hand Length

Measure from the wrist crease at the base of your palm to the tip of your middle finger. Keep your hand flat with your fingers naturally extended.

No flexible tape? Wrap a piece of string around your palm, mark where the ends meet and measure the string with a ruler.

These measurements describe different parts of the hand and are not interchangeable. Check which measurements your chosen glove brand requests.

Use Your Measurements with the Right Size Chart

Keep your circumference and length readings together with their units. Compare them with the chart for the exact gloves you want to buy. A size M in one brand may fit differently from a size M in another.

If your readings fall between sizes, point to different sizes or sit outside the chart, check that model’s fit notes or ask the brand for help. Liner gloves and insulated outer gloves can require different amounts of room.
